Firmware 2.0 for the Audio Limited A10 transmitter is available now, adding simultaneous time code recording and transmitting for balanced mics and line-level inputs, as well as some other bug fixes and improvements.

The A10-TX transmitter includes an integrated digital recorder with a precision time code generator. The recording feature will work with boom microphones and other balanced microphones and line-level signals, but is not available with lavalier microphones in the US.

An internal microSD card in the transmitter stores audio data in proprietary .mic format. The free Mic-to-WAV utility for Mac OS and Windows converts .mic files into industry-standard broadcast WAV files with time code.

UPDATE, 10/6/17: IMPORTANT NOTE FOR MASTERLOCKIT AND MASTERLOCKITPLUS USERS. There was a bug in the initial firmware release - if you downloaded 5.10, discard the files and download the new Ambient-MasterLockit-5.1.0-2. files.

If you have an unit with a serial number starting with MLA and have already installed the earlier version of 5.10, the little square in the OLED will not come on and you won’t be able to log in to your MasterLockit’s web interface. Contact us if you have this problem and we'll arrange a fix.

Firmware v5.10 is out for the Ambient Lockit devices, including the NanoLockit, MasterLockit, Tiny Lockit, Lockit Box, and Time Code Slate!

The NanoLockit update includes the ability to increase the LED brightness, toggle the auto power feature, enable the LNA antenna ample while on battery power, and stop the NanoLockit from being re-jammed incorrectly when using a bi-directional power cable.

Deva on the March

Deva on the March

Glenn Sanders was in Atlanta with the Zaxcom Deva 24 demo unit last weekend and it's looking great! Please remember that things are subject to change before release, so we'll keep you updated.

That said, here are some of the feature highlights:

  • The unit has 40 inputs - 16 analog and 24 AES.

  • The interface uses a more streamlined version of the Deva 5 software, but it's still very Zaxcom.  There may be a small learning curve for the new user, but it looks even easier to use then a Nomad.

  • RX-12-like control.   Control your Tx and Rx frequencies, settings, power roll, etc. from the Deva.  Menu and screen settings look exactly like the RX-12.

  • Post Record:  Like pre record, only after you hit stop

  • Cue Mode: The Deva playbacks Zaxcom transmitter recordings, so you can remix a scene.  It's an improved version of a Deva 5 feature.

  • Track routing is extremely customizable.

  • Initial shipments will not have ZaxNet enabled, since it's pending FCC approval.  When it's approved, there will be no charge for the ZaxNet board and it'll be installable by the end user or a dealer.

  • Dante board option

  • No NP battery slot.

  • Records to (2) CF Cards, (1) ESATA Swap Drive, and (1) Internal SSD.  The internal drive is relatively small out of the box, but upgradable up to 1 TB

  • The intro price for the Deva 24 is expected to be around $12,000 with an anticipated price bump sometime afterwards.

  • The Mix-16 control surface will be in the  $5000-6000 range

Firmware update v2.33 for the Sound Devices 970 and Video Devices PIX-250i/260i/270i adds the option of Dante Sync and transport control from more devices.

Assuming Direct Entry

Assuming Direct Entry

Lectrosonics is introducing new firmware 4.0 for the IFBR1a Belt Pack Receiver that allows the receiver to be operated in two distinct user interface modes:

  • Scan Mode, which exhibits the original behavior of the IFBR1a receiver where users can locate and store up to five different IFB carrier frequencies by scanning for them

  • Direct Entry Mode, which takes away the scan capability and replaces it with the ability to program channels into the memories directly via the pushbutton and hex switches. In Direct Entry Mode, five additional channel memories are available, for a total of ten.

The new firmware also enhances the functionality of the IFB hardware and ease of setup for the user.

Users can identify the difference between a v4.0 IFBR1a in Scan Mode and a v2.4 IFBR1A by a burst of rapid LED blinks at power-on in the v4.0 version, to indicate that the unit has two modes available, and the first of those two modes is selected. Users with v4.0 firmware installed in their units can change modes with a simple, step-by-step procedure using the hex switches on the side of the receiver.

"The Lectrosonics IFB system has been a staple for broadcast and other applications for over two decades," states Karl Winkler, vice president of sales & service at Lectrosonics. "A number of our top users have suggested this feature and we're happy to add it via new firmware. This way, the functionality of the existing hardware is enhanced, especially for larger IFB systems with multiple frequencies. This should really speed up the setup time for users in those kinds of scenarios."

New IFBR1a receivers in the UHF blocks shipping from the factory already have this new firmware installed, but older units must be factory upgraded. If users with older units wish to have the new firmware installed , contact the Lectrosonics Parts & Repair department directly at [email protected] or 800-821-1121 or Gotham Sound at [email protected].

X32 Will Mix For You

X32 Will Mix For You

The Behringer X32 v 3.0 firmware update adds automixing!

From the release notes:

The Version 3.0 firmware adds automixing with Dugan-style gain sharing on two independent groups to the input channel 1-8 processing.

The automatic mixer algorithm dependably distributes the total amount of gain among the assigned channels in the same group, considering their speech level, fader level and the adjustable weighing factor. The speaker with the highest combination of volume, fader level and weighing factor will receive higher gain in the mix, while the others would be attenuated by the same amount, ensuring a stable low background noise floor without any gating/ducking artifacts.

The update to 3.0 also allows you to control the X32 remotely using Behringer X-TOUCH control surfaces via Ethernet network or MIDI, directly.
