Remote Communication FAQ

Check out the intro page to this subject here or a more detailed version in chart form here.

My director/producer/other crew or talent needs to be able to work remotely with people on a set. What's the simplest solution?
We can help set you up with a video and audio feed through Zoom, Discord, or any other compatible video conferencing service where your remote personnel can see and hear what's being filmed. If they want to address the set, it can be broadcast through a speaker, single walkie channel, or single intercom channel.

How do the on-set personnel talk back to the remote personnel?
Either through the production microphones in the on-set feed or through the intercom channel, if you're using an intercom system.

I have a large, complicated production and all the remote communication happening on one channel is going to be too chaotic. Is there a more flexible solution?
Sure! We can set up all your participants with a mobile app that allows them to select from up to eight audio channels right from their phone. They can control whom they're talking to, whether it's a group on set, another remote participant, or a combination thereof.

What if I want higher quality video?
The Gotham Live X Director Portal replaces lo-res consumer video from set with a password-protected feed with resolution up to 4K. The rental includes a video input box with a dedicated encoder to ensure ultra-low latency and cinematic video quality for up to 100 simultaneous remote viewers.

What if I need better internet service at my location to stream video?
We can offer dedicated managed mobile internet for locations requiring a reliable internet connection or where a backup connection is desired. Rentals start at $150/day for basic connection; a faster connection with redundancy is also available starting at $500/day

This is sort of a non-sequitur, but I don't suppose you have a way for my sound mixer to work remotely?
Funny you should ask. The Unity Connect Audio Tie-Line allows the sound mixer to control on-set devices from home. Up to 64 channels of audio can be transmitted and received over the internet with ultra low latency. Unity Connect is compatible with Dante-controllable devices, such as Shure Axient Digital Wireless, Sound Devices 8-series recorders, or Behringer X32 mixers.

What's all this going to cost?
It'll depend on your exact needs, but we put together some basic package pricing to give you a rough idea.
