The Sound Devices 633 compact mixer/recorder offers all the features that made the 664 a hit at a lower price. This tiny mixer features six mic/line level inputs (3 XLR mic/line and 3 TA3 line level) and an integrated 10 track recorder, just like its older sibling. Those six inputs output to six busses, making the 633 the perfect lightweight mixer to add to your run-and-gun rig. The integrated recorder can record 24-bit at 48 kHz on all ten tracks simultaneously (six tracks at 94 kHz or 192 kHz) and record the audio to CF card, SD card, or both simultaneously. It's safe to say that if you've used a 664, you'll feel right at home with the 633.
But the 633 is more than just a smaller version of the 664. The 633 is the first Sound Devices product to incorporate its PowerSafe technology in its power distribution. The 633 features four possible power sources: external DC power, internal AA power, and two L-Type 7.2 V lithium ion batteries. If one power source fails, the 633 intelligently switches to another. If the unit ever finds itself suddenly without power, the PowerSafe technology kicks in to keep your 633 powered for up to ten seconds. This extra time allows the 633 to close all its files and processes normally and give you a chance to connect it to another power source, just in case you have to save that crucial take. And even if you do shut down, PowerSafe will make sure your files are uncorrupted and safe.
